About a month ago, redditor carefree_dude’s wife found an injured squirrel on the side of the road twitching, most likely hit by a car. The Poor little guy had a major head trauma and couldn’t do anything, so the family reached out to a wildlife rehabilitator.
After 6 days of medicine, Mitten, the squirrel, felt a lot better, he was able to hold food, though he still needed help drinking and couldn’t walk very well. “We are still caring for him, though he will likely never be able to be released again, wrote the redditor. “He may not be able to live a wild life, but if he continues to recover, we can help him live a good life.”
Mitten is the second squirrel the family has saved: “We would love to run a wildlife rehabilitation center some day. We are building a 5ft by 3ft by 8ft enclosure for him, which I hope to put a small living tree in.” For now, Mitten loves hanging out in the family’s Christmas tree.
